The European otter is one of our iconic species found around wetland and river habitats across Derbyshire. They are fantastic swimmers with dense fur, webbed feet and can keep their nose and ears closed whilst underwater! Keep an eye out for otter signs such as their five-toed footprints and droppings also known as ‘spraints’. Otters are a widespread species but have become absent from parts of England.
